Musum Pontificalis update

I would like to apologize for not having updated Musum Pontificalis (and Unam Sanctum) this past week. Unfortunately, I have been having a rough go of things and have been in excruciating pain (even the best narcotics wouldn’t help). I’m feeling much better today, but I will not be out of the woods for another week or so. Many things at home and at work have been neglected during this time, so now I have to play catch-up. My poor wife has had to handle nearly everything around the house and with the kids all by herself, so I want to officially thank her here. Hopefully, I can get some comments on MP answered tonight after the kids go to bed. All going well, in a few days I will have more time to be more regular about posting and replying.

If you haven’t read the parody statement, I urge you to do so.

I would also like to thank you for the very positive response to Musum Pontificalis. When I created it, I had no intention of making it an ongoing concern; it was just supposed to be part of an overall parody story entitled Pope Benedict’s new evangelization – Blogging?. Thanks in most part to the excellent comments that you have left in the comment boxes, I have continued posting and replying. If you haven’t read the comments section yet, I highly recommend doing so. The commentators have been incredibly witty and clever with their comments, have played along brilliantly, and have given me great pleasure in both reading them and replying to them.

I also want to thank all of you fellow bloggers who have been so generous in your support. I’ve tried to keep up on all the people who have blogged about MP or have posted comments about it on various bulletin boards, and at a later date will try to figure out way of having the Holy Father give you some special attention. For now though, I would like to single out Jeff Miller, St. Blog’s very own Curt Jester who has been very gracious in his support of MP and Maureen Martin from CatholicNews.org who was generous enough to provide constructive feedback as I was preparing to roll it out. If I may, I would suggest that if you post something about MP that you recommend that newcomers start from the beginning. Papa Ratzi’s character has sort of evolved and many bits of humor (primarily in the comboxes) are carried over from earlier posts, it seems to me that to start reading with the latest post would be akin to watching only the last 3 minutes of a Seinfeld episode…it just wouldn’t be as funny. Then again, perhaps I am too close to it, so just use your own judgment. ;)

I will keep Musum Pontificalis going as long as I feel I can do it without getting stupid about it. Yes, I know; it is stupid. But at least now it is good stupid, I worry about getting plain old stupid stupid, or worse...bad stupid. I’m also very surprised so many people find the humor in MP. I know I have an incredibly stupid sense of humor, but I’m amazed at how many of you folks do too. ;)

I will use this post as a place for any relevant updates, etc. (I would like to limit anything that detracts from MP’s look/feel). If you want to leave a comment about something regarding MP that would detract from its ambience, please use the comments section here or e-mail me.

Viva il Papa!
